How Bower® Type E Accommodates Common Misalignment Issues
Did you know that misalignment is the second-most common reason for why a bearing fails? NTN’s Bower Type E heavy-duty mounted roller bearing unit is the perfect solution for applications where misalignment is present.
Designed with a spherical roller bearing insert, Bower Type E can accommodate up to +/- 2 degrees of misalignment. This is useful in applications where you have uneven mounting surfaces, alignment issues during mounting, or shaft deflection.
Scenario #1: Uneven Mounting Surfaces
When installed on a 5-foot long shaft, Bower Type E heavy-duty mounted roller bearing units can accommodate a difference in mounting positions, vertical or horizontal, by over 4 inches. Any misalignment within this range will not affect the operational performance of the bearing.
Scenario #2: Uneven Pedestals
Bower Type E heavy-duty mounted roller bearing units can be installed on stationary mounting pedestals that are uneven or out of alignment. Again, this will not affect the operational performance of the bearing as long as the misalignment is with the allowable range of +/- 2 degrees.
Scenario #3: Shaft Deflection
In certain applications, the shaft may experience unbalanced loads and deflect during normal operations, as seen in the image below. Bower Type E heavy-duty mounted roller bearing units can go with the flow and accommodate the shaft deflection.
