January Tech Tip: Proper Torque Matters When Installing NTN Sentinel Series

Our experts at NTN want to support you and your customers’ needs with inside tips for success!

When installing our stainless steel Sentinel Series bearings, it is essential to tighten insert bearings with set screws to the proper torque, as stainless steel is more brittle than traditional 52100 bearing steel. Did you know that excess tightening of set screws may cause inner ring cracking? Inner ring cracking leads to excessive shaft wear and premature bearing failure. Additionally, fractured material may contaminate food & beverage products, leading to mandatory product recalls and negative customer reactions.

All of this can be avoided by using the recommended set screw tightening torque instructions outlined in our tech tip.

If you have additional questions about set screw torque, please reach out to the NTN Engineering team for further assistance by emailing [email protected], or calling our technical hotline at 1.800.323.2358.
