Why Are Sentinel™ Series Mounted Units End Cap Capable?
NTN’s Sentinel Series is a premium line of corrosion-resistant mounted ball bearing products developed for the harsh conditions of the food & beverage industry. The entire Sentinel Series line features insert bearings constructed from 440C stainless steel with integrated bearing seals.
In addition to the seal on the insert bearing, NTN offers another level of protection depending on the application. End caps (also called end covers) are available with all mounted units and are attached to the housing by using a soft hammer. There are a few reasons why the availability of end caps/covers is imperative in the food & beverage industry:
- Worker Safety
Exposed rotating components allow for the possibility of worker injury. Sentinel Series end caps enclose rotating components, adding a layer of protection between them and facility workers. End caps also meet OSHA standards that mandate protection from exposed horizontal shafting. - Food Safety
Food safety is a top priority in the food & beverage industry because contaminated product can lead to costly recalls. Sentinel Series end caps prevent oil, grease, and potentially failed bearing components from contaminating food. - Bearing Protection
Caustic chemicals and high-pressure washdown cycles are prevalent in all food & beverage plants. Fine particulate contaminants often found in confection, baking, or food processing can also be present. These conditions make protecting the bearings in your application important as exposure can lead to costly downtime. Sentinel Series end caps extend bearing life by adding a layer a protection between the bearing and the harsh elements.
Caps are available for all sizes of Sentinel units and each product will automatically come with the appropriate cap size, type, and quantity when using the suffix designations below:
- CC = Outside(outward facing) cap provided with a closed end (additional open cap added for drive side if applicable to housing)
- C0 = Outside(outward facing) cap provided open end contact seal (additional open cap added for drive side if applicable to housing)
